#TeaserTuesday #AuthorToAuthor: Rise of Alpha by Lorenz Font

Today for Teaser Tuesday, a sneak peek at what Lorenz Font has been working on. Coming soon!

Rise of Alpha - 1st book of the Prodian Journey Trilogy

“What’s the medical term for your jumping illness?”
I was glad the question came up right away. “It’s called Tourette’s Syndrome.”
“What is that?”
The question plagued me wherever I went, and I had the answer down pat. Explaining it one more time wouldn’t kill me. “The sudden and involuntary tics and vocalizations are byproducts of an abnormal metabolism of my brain’s neurotransmitters.” I shrugged.
“Wow… sounds heavy.”
Yep, it was a big issue for a teenager, something I wouldn’t ever sign up for. “If my involuntary cursing and jerking doesn’t bother you, then I don’t have a problem being your partner. I’m just trying to protect you from a possible heart attack. In my experience, people get nervous being around me.” I leaned against the cushion, feeling good now that I’d gotten her all prepared. If my fever was making me delirious with happiness, then I wouldn’t mind the mercury spiking up a bit more.
“You sound like you’ve been hiding for much too long, Curly.”
It would have sounded better if she used babe or sweetie, but I’d settle for anything. “It comes with the territory, but let’s not talk about me anymore. Why don’t you tell me what you want to do for our photography project?” This was a ploy to get her talking so I could keep listening to her voice.
Shannon’s eyes rolled up to the ceiling. “Um, I like taking pictures of moving subjects rather than portraits. I would love it if you would pose for me. You’re very interesting, Mexican jumping beans and all.” She giggled.
I glared in mock disapproval at her attempt to make light of my situation. “Hell, no. I’m not comfortable in my own skin, let alone with allowing someone to take my picture for everyone to make fun of.”
I stood up, but my legs wobbled. Shannon was quick to get up and place her arm around my waist. Holy smokes, batman. She touched me!
“You’re such a dork! I’m not kidding. Haven’t you checked yourself in the mirror?” she asked, helping me back down onto the sofa.
I felt like a total loser and had no idea what to say. Look at myself in the mirror? I’d been doing that for the last seventeen years and never liked what I saw—blond hair, dull blue eyes, and average build. Interesting was a word I’d never apply to myself.
Freakish, yeah. Right on.

Lorenz Font

Lorenz Font discovered her love of writing after reading a celebrated novel that inspired one idea after another. She is currently enjoying the buzz from her vampire novels Hunted, Tormented and Ascension, Books 1-3 of The Gates Legacy Series, Feather Light, an erotic romance, Indivisble Line, a romance thriller and Pieces of Broken Time, a military romance. Lorenz’s perfect day consists of writing and lounging on her garage couch, aka the office, with a glass of her favorite cabernet while listening to her ever-growing music collection. She enjoys dabbling in different genres, with an intense focus on angst and the redemption of flawed characters. Her fascination with romantic twists is a mainstay in all her stories. Lorenz lives in California with her husband, children, and two demanding dogs. She divides her time between her full-time job and her busy writing schedule.

RELEASE BLAST with Author Interview & FREE GIFT: Poughkeepsie Begins by Debra Anastasia

It ends with the beginning. This legendary, indie, cult-favorite series ends its tale with the story of the Poughkeepsie brotherhood before the tattoo. Before the train station, before the church, before a criminal empire there was a foster home and three teen boys who chose each other as family, because the ones they were born into didn’t exist

Still in high school, Beckett is already laying the groundwork for a grander life ahead, one where his brothers want for nothing and get some respect for once. But even as he plans, Beckett must decide if he’s ready to make that choice—diving in to a life that trades his chance at a future, his chance at something as simple as first love with a girl named Candy Cox, for their chance to find happiness.

Blake, Beckett, and Cole’s devotion to each other is forged by fists and the driving need to belong somewhere, to do more than just survive this life. Readers of the series know they each get there in the end, but before we count smiles, we must first shed tears. These early days of the Poughkeepsie brotherhood will play on your heartstrings before serrating them with a knife; they’ll lift your soul with music, only to leave you with nothing but a desperate prayer for hope.

And when you reach the end of the beginning, you’ll be ready to start the series all over again.

When she ducked under the bleachers, he was a dick, right off the bat. His buzz was wearing off, but he was still high and broken at the closeness of her. “You’re missing your boyfriend during his lawn ballet.” He assumed a stance—douche mixed with confrontational—that he knew stopped people. It set up his walls real nice. With everyone.
Everyone but her. She walked right up to him. She pushed him hard once, twice, until his back hit one of the supports. And then she slapped him.
He took the slap and rolled his eyes. “That all you got for me, pink princess?”
And then she was kissing him. Oh, God. Kissing him and palming him with the same ferociousness he felt. He grabbed the metal behind him to keep from attacking her and nailing her right on the concrete floor littered with cigarettes and chip bags.
She pulled away and slapped him again, growling, “Fuck you, Beckett Taylor. Don’t you ever do that to me again. I’m worth more than that, and you know it.” She stepped back, leaving cold space and his heated erection between them.
He swallowed, his pounding heart trying to beat some common sense into his brain again. It wasn’t working. He let go of the bleachers and advanced. “You have some fucking nerve. You’re the one up there prom-queening it with goddamn Ryler.”
She stood her ground as he came at her. And he knew he was intimidating. Shit, full-grown men stepped aside when he was coming. But Candy raised her chin. He was amazed at the fight in her, right there. He pulled her into a dip, just like fucking Pyler had, except he did it like a man who wanted a woman and knew what to do with her body. Candy needed to push him away; she needed to turn her head.
Instead she groaned and bit his bottom lip hard enough to draw blood. He put his hand between her legs and dragged it up to her breast, squeezing hard so she would feel it through her coat. She sunk her nails into the skin at his neck. She was a buried treasure. He was sure as fuck no one knew about this side of her. Only he could get her panting like she was. He spanked her bottom once.
“Ow.” She was shocked.
He stopped kissing and looked her in the face as he spanked her again, more forcefully this time.
Her “Ow” was quieter, and the hunger in her eyes far deeper than her years.
Again he spanked her. And this time she purred. Fucking purred. He began slow, circular caresses over the denim that covered her ass. He was desperate to see the red imprints from his hand.
“Fuck it.” Beckett picked her up and set her back against the metal support he’d tried to cling to before.
They weren’t alone. Red tips of cigarettes glowed, gentle murmurs of illicit behavior could be heard if you knew how to listen for trouble. Still, he held her against the pole and mimicked the motions he was desperate to do with her. He dropped his mouth to the zipper on her coat, which kept her safe from all his intentions. He used his teeth to pull it down to her cleavage. He buried his face, licking and nuzzling her sweet-smelling neck. He used his chin to move material so he could access more of her chest. She smelled like goddamn candy. His dick could pack gunpowder in a cannon it was so fucking hard.
After a moment, the murmurs added up. Too many. He glanced around and noticed the cigarettes being stubbed out. He let his prize slide down the metal gently. He leaned down to kiss her lips, then her forehead, right under the edge of her fuzzy hat before whispering, “Go. Cops are here. Go.”
And then Candy, sweet-smelling, homework-doing Candy, stuck her hand in his jacket’s hidden pocket and took the gun out. He pulled her hands and his gun close to make sure the safety was on before letting her tuck it into her bra.
“Anything else?” she asked.
And then he slipped the rest of the merchandise in his left pocket into her right one. She turned and left.
“And don’t you ever talk to me again, Taylor. I have a boyfriend!” She stormed away as the resource officer stepped up next to him.
“You have a way with the ladies, son.”
“I’m not your son.”
“That’s the truth right there. ’Cause if you were, you’d be on that field kicking footballs instead of selling at my school.”
When Beckett was let off with a warning due to lack of evidence, his one thought was of her. Candy was so perfect for him it hurt.

1. Do you think people perceive you in the same way as you do? What do you think they see? I think we are all on the same page that I'm a weirdo. I'm too flighty to be deceitful, so what you see is what you get. I sure hope that my readers know that I would love to sit and have a cup of hot cocoa with them. And hug them.

2. What is the craziest thing you've ever done? Writing. Sitting down and thinking I could write was the craziest thing. It rips your imagination wide open and you willingly sit down and tell the entire world (if they are interested) what makes you tick. I was so worried that people would think that I was too strange. Which they do, but people are accepting.

3. If given a choice, which animal would you want to be? Why? A tiger. I love cats and a tiger is just so cool. All the sleeping is very appealing too.

4. If you were stranded in a zombie apocalypse, what five things would you want to survive? I think I would just let the zombies get me. I would make a really great zombie. I'm already scary. Imagine what zombie farts smell like, too?

5. Knowing what you do now, if given a chance to go back ten years for a re-do, would you? Would you want to change any of the decisions you've made with regards to your writing? I would not change a thing. The journey that Poughkeepsie --in particular-- has taken me on is a lot like a wild horse. It goes where it wants and I'm just hanging on for the ride. I learned to listen to my readers, they have amazing intuition.

The day I graduated from college was supposed to be the best day of my life.  I’d completed 17 years of education.  I was supposed to be prepared for the rest of my life, but none of that education prepared me for my graduation day.  I was educated, free, and young, with prospects galore.  I had interviews to go on, contacts to make, networking to do, a stage to walk, and a diploma to collect.  I’d earned it.  I was looking forward to it.  But instead of graduating, I was spending my time in a police station, being questioned in the disappearance of my best friend and roommate of the last four years, and in the murder of my boyfriend; ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend as of the previous evening.
A mere 24 hours before, I was blissfully happy, but today was a different story.  My graduation was taking place while I was sitting in an interview room, handcuffed to the table, waiting for the police officer to come back into the room.
The door opened, and a relatively young, attractive man in a suit entered.  I wasn’t sure who he was.  For some reason, I was expecting the uniformed officer that arrested me to be there, but he wasn’t.
“Ms. Duncan?  I’m Detective Martinez,” he said, as he sat across the table from me.
“Please, call me Mags.  Everyone does,” I replied.  I would’ve offered him my hand to shake, but they were still cuffed to the table.
“Okay, Mags, do you know why you’re here?” he asked.
“Yes, sir.  My ex-boyfriend was murdered, and my ex-best friend is missing,” I replied, as I began crying.  The detective reached into his jacket, pulled out a little packet of tissues, and handed them to me.
“Thank you,” I managed between sobs.  Trying to wipe my eyes was difficult, so the detective stood and pulled his keys from his pocket.  He uncuffed me and left the keys on the table beside the handcuffs.  He pulled his jacket off and draped it over the back of his chair before sitting down again.  I wiped my eyes and blew my nose.  Then I rubbed each wrist where the handcuffs had been.  It felt good to be free of them.
“I understand the arresting officer read you your Miranda rights.  Is that correct?”
“Yes, sir.  He told me I didn’t have to say anything because it could and would be used against me in court.  And I haven’t done anything wrong, so I don’t need an attorney.  I don’t have anything to hide.”
“Okay.  You’ve lived with Courtney Mills for four years.  Is that correct?”
“Yes, sir.”
“And you’ve dated Brandon Wade for those same four years?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Then, why did you call them your ex-best friend and ex-boyfriend?” he asked.

#TeaserTuesday #AuthorToAuthor: Sneak Peek at T.M. Franklin's 2015 NANO Project

Teaser Tuesday

Today for Teaser Tuesday, a sneak peek at what T.M. Franklin's been working on for National Novel Writing Month!

Jamming his hands into his sweatshirt pockets, Beck shivered and blinked the sleep out of his eyes with a yawn. He took a step back and looked around, finally able to focus on his surroundings. The neighborhood was a mess, not even counting the mayhem around the house fire. Garbage cans were upended in the middle of the road, one crunched under the wheel of a black sedan with a dent in the side, parked halfway onto the sidewalk, the driver's side door hanging open and spray paint scrawled across the hood. Paper and trash scattered in the wind, littering front yards up and down the street. Beck tilted his head a the sound of another siren, further away, and a distant rumble he realized was shouting.
What in the world was going on?
His dad strode up. "House is empty. The Jensens aren't home," he said, looking up at the fire. "The house is a loss, though. They're pretty much just trying to keep it from spreading to other buildings at this point."
"Do they know how it started?" Beck asked.
His father frowned. "Bunch of kids, apparently. Maybe gang activity. They're not sure," he said. "They came through, causing trouble . . . vandalizing, looting, that kind of thing. Not sure how they started the fire, though. Not sure why they'd want to.
"I don't know." He shook his head, brow furrowed as he turned toward the still-wailing siren. "It seems like this town's gone crazy or something."
Beck opened his mouth to respond, but his ringing phone interrupted his thought. He grabbed it, instantly recognizing his sister's ringtone.
"Hello? Tru?"
Only heavy breathing and a soft whimper responded.
"Trulee? Is that you?"
"Guess again," a chillingly familiar voice responded.
Beck's heart stopped. "Gina?"
The woman laughed. "What happened to 'Mom?'"
"You lost that privilege a long time ago."
"What's going on?" his father asked. Beck shook his head and held up a finger to hold him off.
"How did I raise such an ungrateful child?" she asked, words slurring. "You're such a disappointment."
"Well, that's nothing new," Beck replied through gritted teeth. "Where's Trulee?"
"Trulee . . . Trulee . . . Truuuuuuleeee . . ." Gina sang tunelessly. "Wouldn't you like to know?"
"What have you done to her?"
"Nothing she didn't deserve," she snapped. "Ungrateful, useless—"
Beck didn't hear the rest of her rant. He hung up the phone and fumbled for his car keys, racing for the house when he realized he'd left them inside.
"Beckett!" His father chased after him, catching him on the way back down the stairs. "What in the world is going on?"
He pushed his way past. "It's Tru. I think she's in trouble."

~~Praise for Black Rose~~

"There are just not enough words to describe how great I thought this book was! I completed it in one sitting, refused sleep till I was finished.
A psychotic killer is abducting women, holding them hostage for days and days while raping and torturing and killing in a most horrendous way. Except you know this by reading the back of the book. What you dont know is the story inside...there is so much more."

There Are No Vampires In This Book:

She wasn't like other girls- not after that night, that thing, took her parents from her. She made it through hospitals, doctors, and therapy by playing by their rules and saying all the things they wanted to hear. But, inside, she held on to the truth. She knew what she saw.

With her two closest friends at her side, she dedicated herself to a mission. She would train and she would hunt. When the time came, she would be ready. No one she loved would be hurt by one of those monsters ever again. But with high school behind them, new found freedom comes with new responsibilities and new problems. Instead of weapons and self defense classes, she now has jobs and bills. The relationship with her best friend was suddenly shifting into new, scary territories. How could she take down bad guys if she couldn’t get her own life in order?

A mysterious stranger who pops up in suspicious places and throws off all sorts of bad vibes. His face now starred in her regular nightmares and plagued her thoughts in the day. Was she overreacting? Or, was this finally the monster she had been waiting for? As the scars of Taryn’s past rise up to haunt her, she begins to question herself. With her mission faltering and her friendship off kilter, would life ever be the same again? Would she ever be the same?

She hit him with a cushion. “Shut up and play the game.”

“Truth or dare?” Aiden asked, his tone resigned.

“Dare. I’m not letting you mock my truths.” She leaned forward and started to mix another drink. One she definitely didn’t need but was having anyway. She wasn’t thinking about this lonely dramatic stuff anymore tonight. Even if she had to drown it.

“I dare you to kiss the first guy you lay eyes on.” Aiden bolted forward with his announcement, but she was faster.

Taryn squeezed her eyes shut instantly. “Nice try, goofball.”

“Oh, that’s not fair,” he grumbled.

“Should have worded it better,” she mocked him in a singsong voice. Eyes still closed, she raised her glass, a little wobblier than before. “Let’s make a toast. To being losers together on a Friday night.”

Instead of a tap of his can to her drink, she felt his fingers slide across the sides of her face and tangle into her hair. Her eyes popped open and locked on his, just inches away.

“Gotcha,” he said in a low voice.

Before Taryn could gasp, his mouth covered hers. It was no gentle, hesitant brush of the lips like she would have expected. No, Aiden met her with a firm, warm pressure that melted her insides like chocolate. His fingers in her hair tightened, sending electricity zinging through her. The drink in her hand was forgotten and slipped to the floor. Neither of them seemed to notice. He ran his tongue across the seam of her lips, asking, and the room tilted. She opened for him. His teeth caught her lower lip and tugged, lightly. She could have sworn she felt the tingle right down to her toes.

He pulled back, dragging his lips against hers in a slow caress. They sat there in the silence, eyes wide. Her head swam and her heart raced. Her scalp tingled where his fingers still pressed into her hair. Those eyes of his had turned to that shade of rich, dark blue. They trailed back down to her lips, which felt a little swollen.

From kissing him. Aiden. Heat blossomed through her belly. That just happened. But, for once, she wasn’t running a million thoughts through her head, worrying each one to death. She wasn’t thinking at all. Her panicky, loud brain was turned off, leaving something dark and hungry at the reins. Taryn wasn’t going to question it. Not tonight. She grabbed Aiden’s shirt and pulled him back down to return the kiss.

Somewhere in her head, it registered.

She was kissing her best friend.

And it was amazing.

STALK Megan Bailey:

Interview with Megan

1. If I gave you an elephant where would you hide it?
In my backyard. It's kind of big and there's nothing but trees and
cornfields to the back. I'd just tell everyone the same thing I told them when I got a goat: I have a really big, loud, weird dog.

2. Do you like dogs or cats?
I have both, but cats are anti-social weirdos. I have more in common with them.

3. If I came to your home and looked inside the refrigerator, what would I find?
Not much at the moment. I need to go shopping! Tofu, avocados, a BUNCH of home-canned pickles, carrots, lettuce, and a ton of salsa. I eat so much salsa I have to buy it in jugs.

4. Tell me how many hats you have in your house?
Maybe 5 and I'm not sure why I even have those. My husband's head is way too big for any hat and they all look ridiculous on me.

5. If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?
Confused myself.

6. Are you a morning person or a night person?
Night person, which makes this whole get-up-and-go-to-work think awkward.

7. Who is the one television character that you simply adore?
If I have to choose just one, I'll go with Rumpelstiltskin from Once Upon A Time. "I'm a fan of true love, dearie."

8. What is your favorite daily wear attire?
To be honest, I'd live in yoga pants and a tank top if I could. Work's not crazy about that, though, so I have to stick to jeans.
