Driven by desperate need to experience more of her, he let his mouth follow his fingers, sweeping kisses down the delicate column of her neck. Her collarbone begged extra attention, and he obliged, swirling his tongue over the tender skin to draw small moans from her. She brought her hands up to smooth along his shoulders, the light touch making his breath hiss between his teeth. He worked further down and she raked her nails gently along his spine until his tongue flicked over her nipple. Then her nails dug in as she arched toward him, soundlessly urging him to take more. He gladly obliged and let his fingers trail down over her ribs and belly, caressing her smooth skin, exploring every nuance. The prospect of possessing her became more real to him with every kiss, every stroke, and made his heart thunder, the force threatening to break through the cage of his ribs. It felt like a living dream, unattainable despite being right there within his grasp. Torn between wanting to lavish more attention on her tits, and the need to have more, Dix finally allowed his mouth to follow where his hands led. When his fingers reached the juncture of her thighs, she gave a sharp cry and let her legs fall apart. Pushed beyond his ability to stay in control, he shifted position for better access and fell on her with a growl, kissing and licking. Georgie cried out again and raised her hips while her fingers scraped hard along the back of his skull until she found hair long enough to grasp. He lost himself in the joy of experiencing her this way. Long before he had his fill, she tugged him upward. "Please, Dix, I want you now."

10 years ago . . . San Antonio, TX (Lackland Air Force Base)

Classic rock music played in the background. It was loud enough to tamp down the murmurs from patrons sat upon the surrounding stools at the bar and at tables in the room. The familiar tunes were at a low volume, keeping the atmosphere quiet enough to hear the thoughts in my head. 

The cheap, watered down booze however, was doing its best to keep the thoughts quiet, too. 

Tonight would be my last in San Antonio, Texas, USA. For a while, at least. Tomorrow I was being shipped out from Lackland Air Force Base to Afghanistan, where I would report for my first official assignment since graduating from the flight Academy. After four years of training, I’d earned my wings at long last, and was now going to get my shot at making my dream come true. I was determined to master the wild blue yonder. 

In celebration, I’d come down to the Officer’s Club hoping to pick up some pretty little thang and coax her back to . . . well, some place. My room in the barracks had been cleared and the key turned in; but definitely some place where I could get her out of her clothes and onto my joystick.

Don’t judge me.

At dawn I was leaving for war. Who knew how long it might be before I’d enjoy the company of a woman again, if ever. What if I were injured, or shot down and killed? Anything could happen in an instant. Was it so wrong of me to want one last night to capture some memories to relive in the dark days that were coming? My momma didn’t raise no fool; this country boy knew war wasn’t pretty. Since my daddy had raised me to be proud of being an American, I was putting myself into the hands of the government of my own free will.

Chapter One

THIS IS MY STORY. It's not the story of a perfect woman in a perfect situation. It's not the story of a woman who made all the right decisions. It's not a story about how I became a different person because of something or someone that happened to me. 
This story is about me being who I am, immovably, irrevocably, and unshakably—through everything that's happened to me. This story is about how I changed my life. 
It begins six months ago, during a conversation over an unshared dinner … and it doesn't end with me being sorry.

“Hey, there's a special on cabins at Mount Rainier this weekend. Do you want to go?" I said over my plate. 
"Hm?" he answered, not looking away from his flashing computer screen. 
"Rainier. This weekend.” I pieced up the details so he'd be able to hear my words between the sounds of gunfire in his first-person shooter game. 
"Sounds good. Have a good time." 
I'd said we, but he hadn't heard me. 
He was my husband, Dan. Good ol' dependable, loyal, faithful Dan. Dispassionate, introverted Dan. Not unloving, mind you; I can't say that my husband didn't love me. In fact, I was sure he did. Unfortunately, he had a problem. He had no sex-drive. What was worse, he openly admitted it. 
I suppose some back-history is in order, since what will follow won't make much sense without it. 
Our courtship began with a sturdy, passionate base. We had lots of sex— rough, dirty, amazing sex. Then, over the course of our second year of marriage, approximately six years into our relationship, his libido died. 
We spent the next four years fighting over it. I am and always have been a lusty, hot-blooded woman. I was tempered and civil in day-to-day interactions, but if you got me in a room with Dan, then I became something else altogether...a woman who could have sex for hours, one who was willing to experiment. I went to lengths to please him. 
I was not okay with celibacy. I'm not made that way, and really, I'd never understood why my husband didn't want sex. 
Neither of us had major health problems. If we did, we weren't aware of them. I don't think he'd ever broken a single bone in his body. In terms of my looks, I jog, watch what I eat, and have a trim figure. I even have a little bit of an ass. You'll never hear me boasting, but I'm not bad looking. Needless to say, the idea that I was ugly didn't last long.
